"300"

WARNING SPOILERS

We finally went to see "300" last Saturday. I first read the graphic novel probably 7 years ago and have a very well worn copy. "300" is where I first learned about The Battle of Thermopylae http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Thermopylae. The movie is not intended to be historically accurate, neither was the graphic novel, although it does a slightly better job of portraying the importance of the battle. "300" the graphic novel states clearly the Greek forces number 7,000 total. The movie adds some things that while visually entertaining, were a bit over the top: giants, a rhino, a strange goat freak in Xerxes' orgy tent, some more freaks, etc. None of this ruined the movie for me, but they were out of place. Queen Gorgo had a much larger role in the movie than the graphic novel. Gerard Butler was excellent as King Leonidas, except for some minor lapses into his Scottish accent.

Having said all that, I thought it was an awesome movie. Got really fired up when Leonidas yells "Persians! come and take them!"
